Have you ever had that experience where the food is so good you want to cry? This place did that to me. I had been wanting to try Blossom Restaurant, NYC for some time and yesterday got sooo close but they closed due to the snow blizzard. Today however was the day! I booked my table at their flagship restaurant in Chelsea and skipped out the door smiling at everyone I passed. If I had my megaphone I might have broadcast to everyone “Hi, I’m vegan and I’m going to Blossom Restaurant”.
Open since 2005 Blossom brought creative dining to a new level and that shows in their menu. I did think I might try a brunch… tofu benedict or florentine with toasted rosemary potatoes mmmmm. But the lunch… it was such a difficult decision. Rigatoni in Porcini Cream with shallots, leeks, broccoli rabe, pistachio gremolata, truffle oil, caramelized fennel & onion jam crostini. Seitan Scallopini in a white wine, lemon & caper sauce served with truffle mashed potatoes and sautéed kale. Oh my…
Finally I plumped for the Seitan Scallopini and I was not disappointed.
I t w a s e x q u i s i t e. No exaggeration. Each mouthful was a buttery lemon explosion with a little hit of salt from the capers. The balance just right so all the flavours are present in each bite and the seitan was just right tender too.
I don’t think I have had such fancy food since going vegan. It felt like a real treat. Like proper eating out. There’s a lot of great vegan food out there but not of the gastronomic variety. Here it is! Was. Bugger its over.
I felt like crying again but instead I had some berries and coconut cream, a ginger, cardamon & black pepper latte and left clutching a copy of their cookbook under my arm.
I cannot wait to revisit. If you can, you simply must go!
