Superfood Chocolate Smoothie with a secret ingredient… Can you guess?
No, not rose petals…..
or lavender. The secret ingredient is…. drum roll….. Black Beans! Wait though, I promise you won’t even know they’re there!
This smoothie is a great way to get those essential beans in your diet, sneak them in even and with all their fibre and protein! The basic version of this smoothie contains somewhere between 1/3 to 1/4 (depending on your age/gender the rdi is different) of your recommended daily protein intake, 1/4 of your calcium (if you use fortified non-dairy milk), more than 2/3 your fibre for the day and off the scale magnesium levels! All that BUT best of all it tastes like a heavenly chocolate shake, a chocolate shake thats good for you!
Theres also a decent amount of potassium, B vitamins, Vitamin C, Vitamin D and HEAPS of antioxidants. Raw cacao IS a superfood, it is literally the holy grail of antioxidants containing 40 times that of blueberries and we know blueberries pack an antioxidant punch!
You really want these too to fight all that oxidisation of molecules going on inside your body. You know like how an apple starts to turn brown once you take the peel off, well thats kind of what goes on inside your body when the free radicals are running around like marauding hooligans, banding together vandalising and damaging your healthy cells. The antioxidants stop that body ‘rusting’ happening, literally fighting the ageing process.
It is also ridiculously high in magnesium which is essential for many chemical reactions in our bodies including regulating muscle and nerve function, blood sugar levels, blood pressure, making proteins and helping create and repair DNA.
Forget Starbucks, throw a shot of coffee in this and you have your morning mocha! A cheaper, highly nutritional, quick and very easy caffeine hit, which is going to fill you up due to the beans and leave you feeling full of beans! Feel free to throw in some avocado too if you want some extra extra healthy fats and feel fuller for longer, again you will not taste it in there and can dilute with more milk if its too thick and creamy that way.
Other delicious additions you can change it up with (and up the goodness) are nut butter and fresh mint.

Superfood Chocolate Smoothie
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup black beans
- 2 dates optional or use more/less for desired sweetness
- 1 frozen banana
- 1 cup oat milk sub with any non-dairy milk
- 1 tbsp chia seeds or flaxmeal
- 1-2 tbsp raw cacao depending how chocolatey you like
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon optional
- OPTIONAL ADDITIONS
- CHOC NUT
- 1 tbsp nut butter
- 1/4 cup additional milk
- MINT CHOC
- 1 handful fresh mint leaves
- MOCHA
- 1 tsp or shot instant or fresh coffee my personal favourite!
Instructions

Blend everything together until smooth, pour into a glass and enjoy!
